RESEARCH TO WRITING
For those of you who missed today's class.
Please note that we were working on our use of the text, researching character and developing our understanding of how the character presents on the page.
The Homework for Thursday is:
a) Gwendolen's diary entry exam paper issued last Thursday.
b) create a graph for one character in the play which charts their journey from when they appear to the end of the play. On the graph you should identify key points in the narrative for the character which impact on their status, happiness, success (in love for example). It need not be complicated, but the process will help you understand the character's journey better.

the sections to break your essay down into.
- Language and literary analysis - how Wilde uses lexis, topic, syntax, grammar, rhetorical and literary devices to reveal the characters and their attitudes.
- How Wilde exposes the hypocrisies of Victorian society through the use of inversion. In other words how by having his characters say things which appear opposite to what is expected he is able to comment on the society he lived in and observed. (roles of men and women, education, vanity etc.)
- How and why the two sections above may lead to humour - irony, satire and sarcasm.
In total your essay should be about 1000 words.
